The Challenge
With significant residential development and strong lifestyle appeal, the City of Greater Geelong will continue attracting families with young children over the coming decades. To support service planning for this growing population, Council needs reliable evidence on how many preschool-aged children would live in the LGA, when demand would emerge, and where it would be concentrated.
Our Approach
We delivered a demand analysis focused on the preschool cohort, indicating how successive greenfield development phases and incremental change in established areas would shape the spatial distribution of Early Years service demand across the region. Our year-on-year population data provided Council with granular, suburb-level insights, while spatial analysis enabled clear visual representation of demographic change and emerging service needs.
Council now has a robust, spatially-informed evidence base that has given them the confidence to plan and deliver education, health, and community services for preschool-aged children across Greater Geelong. The analysis enables proactive infrastructure investment, ensuring that services keep pace with population growth and that young families in both new and established communities have access to the support they need.
