The City of Maroondah required a Community Alcohol Profile to inform their health and wellbeing planning. Council needed a rigorous analysis of the nature and extent of alcohol-related harm within their LGA, including contributing factors and comparative context. To enable a targeted response, they needed to understand how Maroondah's experience of alcohol harm compares to other LGAs and how it has evolved over time.
Our Approach
Insight Demographics developed a comprehensive Community Alcohol Profile using robust LGA-level data from Turning Point. For each indicator of alcohol-related harm, we analysed ten-year trends and benchmarked Maroondah against Melbourne's Eastern Metropolitan Region and Victoria. We then integrated these findings with broader literature on alcohol-related harm to identify likely contributing factors and deliver evidence-based recommendations tailored to Maroondah's context.
The Outcome
Council received a detailed Community Alcohol Profile that clearly indicated Maroondah's position relative to regional and state benchmarks, as well as highlighting emerging types of alcohol harm based on recent trends. Importantly, the profile delivered actionable recommendations that have directly informed targeted responses across community health, advocacy, education and local business support.
